Without a doubt, this website is highly recommended by most of the people, as it offers a good quality, streaming digital music, podcast and video service, allowing access to millions of songs and other artists from all over the world.

Normally, Spotify's basic functions, such as listening to music, are totally free. However, if you want to upgrade your account and get more options, you can upgrade to Spotify Premium. However, through any version you can enjoy excellent service.

Now, taking into account each of these details, it is important to know the origin of the popular green platform, which we all know as Spotify and probably most of us have used this application at least once, but we know little about its origin.

What is Spotify?

I will summarize a bit what Spotify is and how it is used. Spotify is a Swedish cross-platform application, specially designed to play music in streaming mode. It has a free service with basic functions and a premium version that offers better quality. However, while both options are functional, there is no question that the paid option offers better audio than the free option.

Using both versions, you can perform the following actions:

  • Pick and choose what you want to hear
  • Get recommendations on custom features
  • Create music collections
  • See what other users are listening to, including celebrities, friends and artists
  • Create your own radio stations.

One of the advantages of this platform is that it is compatible with any computer or device. That is, this application can be used and downloaded on a computer, such as smartphones, tablets, televisions and even in the car.

When was the Spotify music platform created?

The origin of the Spotify application is Swedish and was launched on October 7, 2008 on the European market. Its expansion into other countries took place in 2009, reaching a high level of users.

This application was developed by Daniel Ek, who founded his first company at the age of 14. In 2006, Ek together with Martin Lorentzon (one of the founders of Tradedoubler) started the Spotify project. However, two years later its release was announced.

In the beginning, Spotify only worked as a platform where you could listen to music online and it was only compatible with computers. Likewise, this application was only available in some European countries such as: Sweden, Norway, Finland, France, United Kingdom and Spain.

People quickly started choosing this platform as they didn't have to download any programs to be able to listen to the music. Although it had a disadvantage, since in order to access the application for free they had to invite you, otherwise you had to hire a paid subscription.

However, in 2009 the developers of the application realized that if they wanted to achieve greater success with Spotify, it was necessary to create a compatible version on smartphones. And that is why today you can use the application from your mobile.

Currently you can enjoy this platform on different operating systems, such as: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Windows Phone, Symbian, iOS, Android. You can also find a free and a paid mode.

Finally, we hope this post helped you. However, we would like to hear from you , do you know how Spotify works? Do you think it is a useful application? Leave us your answers in the comments.
