Excel gives us many options to change columns, for example we can change the width of a column without any problems. In addition to this, it also gives us the ability to split a text, first and last names, telephone numbers or dates, which appear in the same column into another or more columns.

  1. Make sure the columns on the right are empty. If you don't have empty columns you need to insert a new one and you do this by selecting the right column in the name field, right clicking and choosing the Insert option to create a new tab.
  2. To separate the text into columns you need to press the header of the column that contains the text to highlight the column.
  3. Go to the tab "Data" and select "Text in columns", you will automatically see a box called "Wizard to convert text to column".
  4. In the first screen of this box it is necessary to select the «Delimited» option and press the «Next» button.
  5. Another screen will appear where you need to set the separators that contain the data you want to split into columns. When we talk about separators, we refer to the sign that separates the data that we want to divide into columns; These can be a semicolon, a comma, a space or something else such as a hyphen, asterisk or slash.
  6. You can see the changes at the bottom of the tab where it says "Data preview".
  7. Click on the «Next» button
