The creators of Instagram have designed an option so that you can save mobile data, and that is that you can easily configure your Instagram account so that videos are not reloaded with your mobile data; they only play when they are connected to Wi-Fi.

Steps to save or reduce mobile data consumption on Instagram:

  1. You must enter your Instagram account.
  2. Go to your profile, for this you have to press the icon of your profile that appears in the lower right part of the main page.
  3. Press the option "Rule" which appears in the upper right corner; (This menu has the image of three horizontal stripes ≡ or in some devices three points).
  4. A window will immediately appear with a series of options in which you need to select "Settings".
  5. Now you need to choose the option "Account".
  6. You must choose "Use of mobile data".
  7. In the option «Data backup» appears a switch that you have to activate so that the videos are not loaded in advance; (activate this option by sliding the circle to the right, you will notice that it is active because it changes color automatically).

Using this method to save mobile data will help you prevent automatic uploading of videos; but when connected to Wi-Fi, the functioning of Instagram will not be affected.

You can also save the data with high resolution media files on your Android device:

  1. You need to follow the above steps (1 to 7).
  2. When it activates "Data backup" (in step 7), the option will appear immediately "High resolution multimedia files", click this option.
  3. A new window will appear with three options "Never", "Wi-Fi only" or "Mobile data + Wi-Fi" click on the option you prefer. If you choose "Never" the Instagram app will never show you high resolution files, "Wi-Fi only" you will see media files when you are connected to Wi-Fi or if you choose "Mobile data + Wi-Fi" you will be in able to view those files at any time.

The purpose of using this data saving method is to reduce the consumption of mobile data; It is true that photos will take longer to load and some videos will play in lower quality, but you can save many GB per month.
